About

GROW — Grass Roots Organizing Workshop — is home to the SC Progressive Network and the Modjeska Simkins School.

Located in the heart of Columbia, at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Marion Street, GROW is a unique community space. It is a classroom, a meeting place for organizers, and a stage to showcase local talent.

The SC Progressive Network was founded in 1996 by grass roots activists from across South Carolina who crafted a mission statement:

The purpose of the Network is to promote — through education and action — human, civil, workers, and reproductive rights, environmental protection, and government reform.

While the Network has evolved over the decades, its core mission remains the same: powering a movement for social change in the Palmetto State.

GROW is the hub of all our work — and play. Culture is key to movement building, and GROW is emerging as a vibrant space that is authentic and welcoming to people of all ages and interests. Bookmark our calendar to stay current on musical events and organizing meetings.

GROW is available for rent to nonprofit allies who support our mission. Call 803-808-3384 for availability and other details.
